8 WWE Monsters Who Had Their Push Killed By John Cena
3. Kane
When Kane made his long-awaited return in 2011, he once again unleashed hellfire and brimstone on WWE. The moment was undoubtedly special because he wore a mask for the first time in eight years, reminding us all of the destructive force that he was when he debuted over a decade earlier. However, the WWE Universe's happiness would be short-lived because, instead of targeting the man who injured him (Mark Henry), the creative team had Kane target Cena instead... seems legit, right?
Though the unusual storyline started off promisingly, with some vintage mind games from Kane, things got weird pretty quickly. In a bizarre turn of events, 'The Devil's Favourite Demon' wanted WWE's Superman to "embrace the hate" before he wrestled The Rock at WrestleMania which was such a ridiculous storyline because we all knew that Cena was never going to do that, and that simply meant that he was never going to lose.
With that in mind, it didn't come as a surprise when he consistently no-sold this "hatred" Kane spoke of and quickly disposed of him in an Ambulance Match less than two months later — after which 'The Big Red Machine' was sent to SmackDown to lose to Randy Orton.
Perhaps the most criminal of all of Cena's burials, this one stung a little bit more because the creative team wasted Kane's long-awaited re-masking on a bland and predictable storyline that was simply orchestrated to add yet another notch to SuperCena's belt on his way to WrestleMania. Yawn.
