What should have main-evented: Bret Hart vs. Steve Austin

Hart vs. Austin at ‘Mania 13 deserves its status as one of the greatest matches in WWE history. Its quality and impact are both hard to beat. With Shawn Michaels vacating the WWF Championship due to injury, and with Bret having won the title at the February PPV, it would have been natural for him to defend it against Austin in the famous submission match.

But Vince McMahon is gonna do what Vince McMahon is gonna do, so he rushed the belt off Bret onto Sid, put Hart and Austin in the midcard, and pitted Sid against The Undertaker in the battle of the big sweaty men for the main event.

WrestleMania 13 is not fondly remembered aside from the submission match, and a weak main event is why. By all means, have Sid and Undertaker - that match was bound to happen - but the show would have left a better impression if Hart-Austin had capped off the night.
