8 WWE Stars That Triple H Stabbed In The Back
Why does anybody trust this guy in the first place?
Triple H stands alongside the likes of Vince McMahon and Paul Heyman as one of the most treacherous and untrustworthy characters in professional wrestling history. The Game has enjoyed a rich, storied WWE career that’s seen him win 14 world championships and countless other accolades, but he’s been a snake in the grass since debuting as Hunter Hearst Helmsley back in 1995.
His “Connecticut Bluebood” act made him a midcard star, D-Generation X propelled him up the card, and Triple H’s status as an industry titan was cemented by the time he started courting Stephanie McMahon. He’s regularly been at the heart of some of WWE’s biggest moments and storylines throughout his career, and while his continued prominence is sometimes mistaken for nepotism, he’ll likely be remembered as one of WWE’s greatest ever heels.
You can’t become one of the industry’s greatest villains without stabbing a few backs along the way. From DX and The Corporation to Evolution and The Authority, Triple H has worked with countless allies over the years, and almost every single one of them has felt The Game’s dagger between their shoulder blades at one point.
Some forgave, forget, and eventually reignited their alliance with Triple H, while others were cast aside forever. Nonetheless, Triple H’s list of betrayals reads like a novella, and his unfortunate penchant for double-crossing his allies is still going strong in 2016.
Here are 8 wrestlers that Triple H stabbed in the back.
8. Seth Rollins
Seth Rollins is Triple H’s latest victim. Upon splitting from The Shield in 2014, The Architect quickly became an Authority-sponsored avatar on WWE’s main event scene. Rollins reinvented himself as a slimy, smarmy heel alongside Triple H and Stephanie McMahon, and soon embarked on an Authority-assisted WWE Championship run that, while lengthy, confirmed Seth’s status as little more than a pawn in the McMahon-Helmsley machine.
A career-threatening knee injury put Rollins on the shelf and ended his title reign last year, but his presence lived on through Triple H. The Authority had long since made an enemy of Roman Reigns, Rollins’ old Shield brother, and Hunter feuded extensively with The Rock’s divisive cousin through this year’s WrestleMania.
It was the last WWE fans saw of Triple H for a good while, and Rollins returned one month later at Extreme Rules. Realigning with Stephanie, Rollins was back in the corporate pocket, and looked set to continue his privileged role as their hand-picked chosen one.
That was until this week’s Raw, however. As Reigns, Rollins, and Kevin Owens fought for the WWE Universal Championship, Triple H appeared for the first time in almost five months to help Rollins eliminate Reigns, then turn on Seth and allow KO to take the win, and the belt. Raw ended with elation for Owens, but widespread confusion for everyone else. What were Triple H’s motivations, and why did he choose to once again turn on an ally?
We’ll find out in due course.
