8 WWE Superstars Released Today In Mass Firings
4. El Torito
WWE's 2016 "spring cleaning" continues, as the company has announced the release of El Torito.
El Torito broke into the wrestling business in 1999 in Triple A, becoming one of many "minis" to use the name Mascarita Sagrada (a diminutive version of star Mascara Sagrada). In 2007, he jumped to CMLL, where he took the name Mascarita Dorada.
Torito signed with WWE in 2013 and debuted in September as the manager for Los Matadores. Despite his size, the athletic Torito would routinely flummox heel opponents, often taking them down with hurricanranas and similarly acrobatic moves. Torito competed in the 2014 Royal Rumble, managing to eliminate Fandango before being tossed by Roman Reigns.
His association with Los Matadores led him into a feud with the Three Man Band, which translated into a singles rivalry with 3MB partner Hornswoggle. El Torito defeated Hornswoggle in a brutal "WeeLC" match at Extreme Rules 2014, then again in a mask versus hair match at Payback 2014.
Torito continued to appear with Los Matadores until September 2015, when they turned heel and attempted to attack him. After that, he would occasionally appear in backstage segments, but he and Los Matadores soon disappeared from TV. Though Los Matadores have recently been repackaged as Primo and Epico, WWE decided not to reinvest in Torito.
