8 WWE Superstars Who Were Never Eliminated From The Royal Rumble

2. Mil Máscaras

In 1997, WWE was in an experimental stage and had a working relationship with Lucha Libre AAA World Wide, which saw several luchadores enter the Royal Rumble match. One of the main features was legendary performer named Mil Máscaras, who’s in-ring ability was matched by his ego. He was willing to be a filler in the Rumble match, but he wasn’t about to give anyone else the rub.

To retain his stock, Mil Máscaras leaped from the top turnbuckle and out to the competitors on the floor, which was considered a self-elimination. However, that wasn’t quite the case.

Although he performed a splash to the outside mat, Máscaras first exited the ring through the ropes; not over them. Traditionally, a wrestler had to go over the top rope from within the ring, which would have been accomplished had he re-entered before jumping. In addition to protecting his character, Máscaras managed to put an asterisk next to his elimination. Not only did he walk away without being eliminated by another wrestler, he might have not even eliminated himself.
