Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch would have been huge superstars in previous decades but, in 2005, they were anachronistic and just a little bit uncool. The whole redneck/cowboy thing had gone out of fashion by the mid-90s, but WWE persisted anyway (hey, this was around the time of The Dicks and the Heart Throbs, so WWE clearly didn't care about what was 'in'). They debuted on Raw on August 2005 (Cade previously had totally forgettable runs in 2003 and 04) and won the World Tag Team Titles a few weeks later (from The Hurricane and Rosey) at Unforgiven. They had the belts for six weeks before dropping them to Kane and Big Show at Taboo Tuesday. A week-and-a-half later they would split up. If you're reading this and thinking 'Huh? I thought Cade and Murdoch teamed for much longer than this?' then don't worry. They did. This was just the first time they were split up. They began teaming up again in April 2006 and basically floundered for the next year until they had a decent series with the Hardy Boys. They continued teaming for another year, during which time they had so-so feuds and matches with the likes of Paul London and Brian Kendrick, Cryme Tyme and Cody Rhodes and Hardcore Holly. They split for good in April 2008 and had a very brief feud. By this point, it was clear that the team had outlived its usefulness and WWE had grandiose ideas of making Cade a singles star. But as far as the 2005 split? That was way, way too early. They never really had a chance after that.
