Similarly to Cade and Murdoch, Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin - also known as Team Angle and The World's Greatest Tag Team - were split up prematurely only to be reunited later (with diminishing returns). Haas and Benjamin were career tag teamers, having partnered up with brother Russ and Brock Lesnar, respectively, in OVW. When Russ died and Lesnar was brought in as a singles performer, both men needed a new team and were a natural fit for one another, considering their Collegiate wrestling backgrounds and similar size/styles. It was clear from the start that they really had the potential to be something special. They did the workload for a knackered Kurt Angle in six-mans and acted as his punching bag during segments while he was recovering. They did an admirable job. When they really started showing their potential, however, was when they split from Angle in mid-2003. With a new look and a righter act they worked thrillers with teams such as Rey Mysterio and Billy Kidman and Los Guerreros. A week after WrestleMania XX they were split up, with Benjamin being drafted to Raw and Charlie remaining on Smackdown. Benjamin found success as the Intercontinental Champion but Haas wound up back in tag teams (with Rico and then Hardcore Holly). In retrospect, they really should have been kept together for longer. They had an opportunity to do something with the tag scene and really establish themselves as one of the best double acts in recent history. TWGTT versus the Dudleys, La Resistance and later MNM would have been money. Benjamin's singles career could wait.
