9 Awful Proposed WWE Gimmicks That Thankfully Never Made It To TV
3. The Posse
This one didn't make it to TV but it came damn close. Many fans lambast Vince Russo for booking the company into the ground in 2000, but the company had a pretty sketchy record before the insufferable New Yorker came to town and made David Arquette World Heavyweight Champion. One notoriously awful gimmick was 'The Posse'. This was the name originally given to Booker T and Stevie Ray, who were known as the Ebony Experience on the indies but would go on to form one of the greatest tag teams of all-time in Harlem Heat. Booker T and Stevie Ray, as 'Kole' and 'Kane', were portrayed as criminals (read: slaves) who were led to the ring in chains by their manager Colonel Robert Parker, who was portrayed as a rich, white southerner. You can see why this might have been deemed as racially insensitive, can't you? The gimmick did debut at a WCW Saturday Night taping but was so negatively received by the fans in attendance that it never made it to air. WCW quietly and quickly dropped the gimmick before any real damage could be done. Still, the red flags should have been seen way before they even had a match.
