9 Big TNA Changes Billy Corgan Must Make
5. Fix The Knockouts Division. Now!
During the Jeff Jarrett era, with Dutch Mantell at the helm of the division, The Knockouts achieved their greatest success. They had a solid core of wrestlers composed of Gail Kim, Awesome Kong, ODB, Alissa Flash, Hamada and others. It blew away WWE’s Divas division, and the TNA women were often drawing the highest ratings on the show. Then Mantell and Jarrett were ousted from power, and the division quickly crumbled.
Years later, they keep spinning their wheels. Kim is still there, but she no longer feels exciting. Sienna is a nice addition, but hasn’t been protected that well. Marti Bell and Jade are largely characterless, Allie is a comedy figure and Madison Rayne hasn’t done anything interesting in ages and...that’s it. That is the entire division of women in the company that actually compete. Six women.
Luckily, there are still many talented wrestlers out there who they can bring in to spice things up: Heidi Lovelace, Kimber Lee, Evie, Veda Scott or a returning ODB would help immensely. Along with new talent, the matches need to be given time and attention. It feels like ages since there’s been two women’s matches on one episode of Impact, which makes their division feel unimportant.
Corgan needs to get to work quickly, or else they’ll continue to fall farther behind WWE.
