7. The Match Stipulation
Okay, let's skip forward to WrestleMania and imagine this proposed abomination of a match actually goes forward. Amused media moguls and sports fans alike have their interest piqued and have decided to subscribe to the WWE Network solely to view this contest, as WWE clearly believes will happen. The stage is set and two icons of their respective industries meet face-to-face inside the squared circle.
What happens then? It's all fun and games in the build-up, but when the focus is squarely on Big Show and Shaquille O'Neal alone in the middle of the ring, what in the holy hell is going to happen to make it worth anybody's time?
As stupid as they were, at least Big Show's WrestleMania meetings with Akebono and Floyd Mayweather had some direction to them. Akebono? Sumo wrestling. Floyd Mayweather? Boxing. Shaq? I don't know, a dunk contest or something? Maybe see who can sink a three-pointer first?
As much of a stretch as it was, Akebono and Mayweather were somehow linked to physical competition at least comparable to professional wrestling. What in the hell do wrestling and basketball have in common aside from trash talking and dimwitted referees?
