9 Indie Stars Who Didn't Catch On In WWE

7. Joel Redman

A veteran of six years when he was signed by WWE in 2012, Oliver Grey was one-half of the inaugural NXT Tag Team Champions with Adrian Neville. The future seemed bright for Grey but injury had other ideas, as the chap from Exeter suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament and was off TV for over a year.

He did eventually return but was released three weeks later. Injury will always be to blame for Grey's curtailed WWE tenure, but it was clear to all and sundry that he was the second most important member of the tea known as British Ambition.

Despite his success in Revolution Pro Wrestling, Irish Whip Wrestling and other places, Grey never seemed to catch on with the Full Sail audience. Being overshadowed by a true superstar such as Neville probably didn't help.

Grey has since returned to the independent scene working under his previous name of Joel Redman.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
