9 Insane Real-Life Randy Savage Stories

9. He Threatened To Kill Kanyon Over 'Has-Been' Comment

In his book Wrestling Reality, Chris Kanyon tells a story about how at one time in 1999, the Macho Man legitimately wanted to kill him. Why, you ask? Because Kanyon, in-character, called Savage a has-been to Good Morning America (who were profiling Savage). He was cutting a promo, playing to the camera. It's not secret that Savage took ageing badly - just look at how he tried to make himself appear more youthful in the late 90s by increasing his steroid dosage, dying his hair and surrounding himself with a gaggle of gorgeous girls. So it's no surprise that the ultra-intense Hall of Famer would have taken offense to Kanyon's off-the-cuff comment. DDP warned Kanyon that Savage was after him and that he better apologise ASAP. Fearing for his life, Kanyon wrote out an apology/explanation and called Savage. He left it on his answering machine and didn't anything of it for a few months, until Savage called DDP out-of-the-blue and asked to use his wrestling ring to practice for his upcoming match with Dennis Rodman. Kanyon agreed and asked Savage if they were cool about the Good Morning America incident. When Randy confirmed that he got the message and they were indeed 'cool', Kanyon pressed him as to why he was so mad. Savage then revealed that he was in the middle of his $1 million Slim Jim deal and they were trying to faze him out. They thought he was washed-up and then one of the Slim Jim execs saw the Good Morning America piece and saw someone in WCW agreeing with him. But the irrepressible Macho Man laughed and said 'but I got the deal anyway. Otherwise, you would have gotten a million-dollar ass beating'.
