7. Auditioning For Spider-Man In Character And Doing His Own Stunts
It was a treat to see a 'roided-out-of-his-mind Randy Savage as Bonesaw McGraw in Sam Raimi's big-budget version of Spider-Man in 2002. Savage hadn't really been seen since he left WCW in 2000. His only movie role before Spider-Man was as himself in the catastrophic WCW-produced Ready to Rumble. Randy probably didn't go on many auditions but, as a man who had lived his character for so many years, he certainly knew when and where to turn it on. So when he turned up to audition for the role of the wrestler that Peter Parker must last three minutes with in order to win a substantial cash prize, he did so in full-on Macho Man mode. Walking into the room, Savage acted just like his wrestling character would, cutting promos on everyone and threatening to beat them up. The producers loved it, and were especially enamoured with Randy's distinct voice. As an aside, Savage chose to do his own stunts for the film, injuring himself after being monkey-flipped several times into a steel cage.
