6. JBL - WWE Champion

JBL was the longest running champion in the history of Smackdown. He had a 280 day run with the WWE Championship, and fans hated every single second of it. After Wrestlemania 20, Smackdown main event caliber stars Brock Lesnar (quit WWE) and Kurt Angle (injury). With a shortage of quality heels, the decision was made to have Bradshaw of the APA turn heel, and become a hybrid version of JR Ewing and George Bush to do battle with Eddie Guerrero. However, it was such a sudden switch it didn€™t resonate as well as a new person debuting that gimmick would have. Upon defeating Guerrero in a Texas Bull Rope Match, JBL made a regular habit of retaining the championship controversially, or by flat out cheating. In one of the biggest troll jobs ever; he won a steel cage match by crawling from underneath the ring after being choke slammed through it. As the months went on, JBL and The Cabinet escaped with the WWE Championship month while fans waited for a savior. After most JBL wins, commentary referred to his triumphs with €œHE STOLE ANOTHER TITLE MATCH!!!€ Looking back at why fans hated JBL€™s reign so much, a few things stuck out. First, he was a copy of an unpopular president in George W. Bush. Second, as stated before, he was still considered Bradshaw from the APA. Third, he was given the title to get over, and not the other way around. Finally, he was too good as a heel. People weren€™t lining up to cheer him ironically. Aside from hardcore right-wingers, not many fans were comfortable with him playing border patrol. Luckily, JBL fell into a feud with the fasting rising star of Smackdown, John Cena. At Wrestlemania 21, Cena stopped the reign of terror with a clean victory, on wrestling€™s biggest stage. If a heel champion is measured by who dethrones him, JBL is an all-time great. People still hated him, though.
