5. Hulk Hogan - WCW Champion

At Bash at The Beach €™96, Hulk Hogan stunned legions of followers by turning heel on WCW, and forming the New World Order with Scott Hall and Kevin Nash. In the process, he became the biggest heel of the 1990€™s. With his cheating ,and chicken-sh*t heel tactics, fans who had wanted to boo Hogan for years finally had proper ammunition. Hogan defaced the WCW Championship by spray-painting NWO on the beloved title, and single handedly danced on the grave of the €œ30 Day Championship Defense€ rule. When he would wrestle, it wasn€™t of the quality fans were expecting from a main event star at the time, as Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, The Undertaker and Stone Cold Steve Austin were changing wrestling. Not to mention further down Hogan€™s cards, was the legendary WCW Cruiserweight division. The reign of horror began At Road Wild €™96, with what else, an underhanded victory over The Giant. With that victory, Hogan held the title for 500 of a possible 505 days, AS A HEEL. The only break was a 5 day Lex Luger run in August 1997. Hogan used crooked referees, bait and switch tactics, and even eventually lost the title to Sting at Starrcade 97 with a dusty finish. Conversely, the NWO was so dominant for so long, fans were just exhausted with Hogan. Every match ended the same. Even if Hogan lost, he somehow won. This was a time when NWO members used to randomly enter the ring and attack opponents in front of referees. 1 on 1 would quickly turn into 7 on 1 seemingly by the week. Perhaps if Hogan faced fresh opponents rather than 80€™s retreads, we would look back on it more fondly. He didn€™t, so we€™re left with what could have been.
