9 Johnny Gargano WWE Attires Inspired By Superheroes (And Their Hidden Meanings)
6. TakeOver: Chicago II - Captain America
Johnny Gargano’s Captain America inspired gear was the most elaborate getup fans had seen to that point in time. His vest was a near-exact replica of the outfit worn by Steve Rogers in the Civil War film. Furthermore, the Chicago Street Fight rules allowed Gargano to further change things up a bit by wearing military-like pants instead of his typical wrestling trunks.
Beyond the aesthetic connection with Captain America, Johnny also likely found a bond to the red, white, and blue hero through their mutual stories. In Civil War, the Captain went to war with his former friend and teammate of Iron Man as both men found themselves on opposing sides of the battleground. Friends had turned to enemies, willing to fight tooth and nail for what they each felt was right.
Similarly, Gargano stepped into a wrestling war with his former DIY partner and once best friend of Tommaso Ciampa. Further adding to the Marvel Comics theme, Ciampa wore a custom t-shirt which depicted himself as the ultimate villain known as Thanos standing over an image of Gargano in Iron Man armor.
