WWE "tells stories".

That's what separates the company from the small-time competition, per its rhetoric. Here, WWE sought to tell the last act of a horror film inside of a wrestling ring, in which the Fiend was impervious and able to withstand pain as a result of his presumed supernatural powers. Those powers didn't concern the referee into calling off the match, even though they handed the Fiend a distinct advantage. Seth's attempted use of a sledgehammer was deemed an act of violence too far, and so the referee, in the end, called off the match in fear for the safety of the challenger. By God, that supernatural entity has children! He also had and attempted to use a bigger hammer, in a match with no rules, but that hammer was ineffective. Like, f*cking hell. Way to get a new weapon over.

WWE's horror film, truly, was garbage day.

Seth's Curb Stomp was completely devalued, but WWE hoped it would be negated by this new, cinematic context. The Stomp here was the repeated plunge of the knife into the heart of the psychopathic monster, but here's the thing: this was still a pro wrestling show, and the problem is they killed the context, too, by bathing the arena in corny red light and taking far too literally the presentation of this new Wyatt character.

This actually worked in patches. Wyatt, who should be f*cking livid after this - the inspiration needed to get this character over is as impressive as how WWE conspired to botch it - carried a preposterous character believably, somehow. Fans reacted to his cool no-sell spots, for a time. And then the supernatural entity was nearly stretchered away because WWE either through institutional gumption or Saudi/Fox interference could not deliver a finish.

WWE ruined that which couldn't be ruined. WWE ruined the Fiend.

F*ck.

This.

Company.
