5. Fatal 4-Way Stipulation

While a Fatal 4-way is a great way to fit four talents into one match, in some ways it feels like a bit of a cop-out. Multi-man matches often have a panic-and-throw-everyone-into-the-mix kind of vibe, and that’s pretty much the pervading impression you got from this one.

Plus, if we go back to the Cruiserweight Classic, every match of the tournament was of course a straightforward one-on-one contest; if you lose, you’re out and the defeat rests squarely on your own shoulders. A Fatal 4-way isn’t quite the same though, because two of the participants know that they’ll have an excuse for losing the match as they technically wouldn’t have been involved in the pinfall or submission.

With the benefit of hindsight, I feel like they might have been better of scrapping the hurried, Fatal 4-Way plan and instead staging a couple of singles bouts, with Gran Metalik simply being named number one contender having been a finalist in the Cruiserweight Classic.

Still, at least we didn’t see our number one contender determined by the dreaded Battle Royal…
