9 Most Desperate WWE Responses To Low Ratings
7. DX Returns
It had only been nine years since the first iteration of D-Generation X turned WWE's airwaves blue (or a lurid shade of lime green) with their supposedly 'edgy' brand of puerility, directly appealing to the company's chief demographic, before the band got back together for another ratings-chasing re-run in 2006.
The sausages were no longer sizzling. Many of the fans who'd enjoyed the outlaws antics the first time round as guffawing 13-year-olds were no longer enticed or entertained by double-entendres pertaining to penises. It didn't help that the forty-something DX's gags were fundamentally unfunny; contemporaneous pubescents weren't laughing either.
D-Generation was no longer Shawn and Hunter's generation. They pair were very much the establishment, the latter even having married into the company. Unsurprisingly, the outdated revival died on its arse.
