9 Most Disappointing Wrestling Cage Matches Of All Time

4. Mega Powers Vs. The Alliance To End Hulkamania - Doomsday Cage Match, WCW Uncensored '96

Why is it that every time WCW creative has attempted to improve on an existing gimmick, their solution is simply: "MAKE IT...MORE!" People like tag team matches? Okay, let's put eight people on each team, then. Fans respond well to the cage match? Add more cages! I'm sure on paper, the 3-tier structure with multiple cages interlocked was fascinating and overflowing with thrilling possibilities. (And indeed, the core premise of this would be used much more effectively with the Elimination Chamber gimmick many years later.) This was all about the uniqueness factor that WCW so craved during this time period, but had yet to really achieve. So tossing ten well-known dudes into the structure and calling it a day probably seemed like enough from creative's standpoint. But fans were not enthralled by the big shiny objects. They were confused. Mostly because the guys inside the ring also appeared pretty confused. And unsteady. And tired. Basically, no one in the arena knew what the hell was supposed to be happening during this match, and that included Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage, Lex Luger, and Ric Flair. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pEWQSh3YAFk Not only did Luger botch the finish, but Savage pinned a guy who had already been eliminated from the match. But, probably to just get this whole mess over with and move on, they afforded him the win anyways.
