9 Most Disappointing Wrestling Surprises Ever

7. Of Course That's Who 'They' Are

2010 was a weird year for TNA. It started with some true enthusiasm and optimism, Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff were on board and the company finally seemed ready to move up a level, something richly deserved by the incredible talent roster they had at the time. Then, they moved to go against WWE on Monday nights and got utterly destroyed.

Abyss was positioned as the super hero of the company, something that made as little sense then as it does now. This obviously didn't work, and Abyss subsequently turned heel by shoving Hulk Hogan's Hall of Fame ring down his throat and going on a rampage through the company. He claimed that 'they' were controlling him, and 'they' were coming. When? Coincidentally, 'they' would arrive at the Bound for Glory PPV.

If you know anything about Eric Bischoff and Hulk Hogan, you are safe in assuming that 'they' turned out to be them. It wasn't a huge surprise, but it was definitely an underwhelming reveal. The trio aligned with Jeff Hardy and Jeff Jarrett, who then aligned with Ric Flair's Fortune stable. TNA had just another monster heel stable in charge, and nobody cared.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
