9 Most Unremarkable WWE Tag Teams Of The Past Decade
4. Ascension (2015)
On paper, The Ascension should have worked. What was likely dreamed up as a mashup of Demolition and the Road Warriors (Legion of Doom), the duo had potential when they first debuted in NXT. When the team got the call-up, everything that could have gone wrong, went wrong.
The tried and true formula of one big guy and one technician presented together as a face-painted partnership became a joke when they were labeled on television as a reincarnation of former tag team greats. Not given a chance to show they weren't a copycat team (even though they were), even JBL called them wannabees on live programming. The WWE Universe immediately refused to accept them.
Within the first month of their main roster debut, WWE showed how little faith they had in the team as Viktor and Konnor put over outdated teams like the New World Order, the APA and the New Age Outlaws in a segment that sealed the Ascension's fate as a team. The way WWE treated these guys in the developmental system gave the impression the company had big plans for them. What happened after they left NXT suggested somebody simply changed their mind.
