9 Next WWE Steps For The Miz

2. Drop The Title At WrestleMania

Now, I wouldn’t necessarily be against Cena being the one to end The Miz’s reign, providing it went down at the Royal Rumble or later.

Because that way The Miz’s reign would overtake the Rock’s 1997 effort, making him the longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion of the past quarter of the century (another accomplishment with a pretty sweet ring to it).

Should Miz retain beyond the Rumble though, I’d be eyeing WrestleMania 33 as the time and place for him to finally surrender the belt. By that point, Miz will have entered rather elite territory, with his Intercontinental Championship reign breaching the 300-day mark. Only four people in history have managed such a feat, thus placing The Miz in some pretty awesome company alongside legends such as Pedro Morales and Randy Savage.

While the temptation might be to have The Miz complete a full calendar year as champion, I feel like by WrestleMania 33 he would helpfully be established as a major enough player, meaning that it’ll be a pretty big deal when someone does usurp him and prise the title from his grasp.

It only seems right that such an occasion be saved for WrestleMania, perhaps even affording an NXT graduate the chance to kick off his WWE career in emphatic fashion.
