9 Promos That Killed Wrestlers' Careers

5. Road Warrior Hawk Threatens To Kill Himself, Legitimately Kills His Career

So technically this was less a promo than it was an on-air cry for help played like a soap opera, but since this is the exact moment one of the most legendary tag teams of all time ceased to be watchable, it needs to be on this list.

In the late '90s, Vince tried resurrecting the Legion of Doom to breathe some more life into his struggling tag team division. Behind the scenes, however, one half of that team was battling substance abuse. But Vince -- in his infinite shamelessness -- decided to splatter Hawk's personal demons all over the screen, constantly referencing his alcoholism in a storyline that also saw him frequently replaced in matches with a more "reliable" option, Droz.

The most infamous segment in this wildly insensitive angle involved Hawk climbing to the top of the TitanTron, spilling his guts to the fans, and threatening to commit suicide. It was a heartbreaking moment of reality infiltrating a promo. And so, naturally, Droz had to climb up the TitanTron and shove him right off the structure.

It was played deathly serious, with J.R. delivering his line "Oh my god, he fell" like he literally couldn't believe what just happened.

The fans hated it, and so did the LoD. And even though Vince attempted to revive the duo multiple times after this disgraceful incident, it never worked. He'd completely ruined them.
