9 Promos That Killed Wrestlers' Careers

4. Madusa Drops The WWE Women's Title In The Garbage, Along With Her Career

If you were a wrestling fan during the mid-90s, you might recall an incident where the current WWE Women's Champion, Alundra Blayze, showed up unexpectedly on WCW Monday Nitro to literally drop the championship belt into the garbage on air.

It's still regarded as one of the first of many "shots fired" at WWE, one that essentially kicked off the Monday Night Wars and began shifting the balance of power over to WCW and Eric Bischoff.

The promo itself was pretty awkward. Before canning the belt, Blayze made sure to denounce everything she'd done in WWE, awkwardly stating her WCW moniker, Madusa, over and over again and then telling the world, in no uncertain terms, she had nothing but contempt for her former employer.

The stunt was a big ol' cherry on Bischoff and Ted Turner's sundae, but it was a poisoned banana split for Madusa, who toiled away in the WCW for another five years without doing much of note. She would later explain that the moment "ruined" her:

"That was the defining moment for everybody for twenty years. I had to live with that. It ruined me. Basically. I never did an interview for wrestling or went to a wrestling signing. I’ve only done two signings since I retired."

To be fair, she was finally inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2015, but the years in between were far from kind.
