An obvious plus of the brand split is that it gives the spotlight to those who might not normally be beneficiaries of it, such as Apollo Crews and Neville, guys who had been lost in the shuffle when the two rosters were combined. But the downside to that is with less talent on offer, it’s much easier to blow through storylines and feuds.

AJ Styles has been a phenomenal champion. The matches he had while holding the title are among the most impressive in any WWE performer’s history. He’s arguably the greatest worker in the world today and his success reflects that. But he can only do so much with the talent that surrounds him, and as a heel he’d already feuded with the only two babyfaces of a similar status.

That means it’s time for new angles and matches, and the only way to do that is to either turn Styles face – something that will happen down the road due to how insanely popular and respected by the fanbase he is – or shuffle the belt onto someone else.

Wyatt having the title allows them to go in a different direction while keeping the main event scene relatively fresh. And we need that because no matter how spectacularly gifted AJ Styles is, we can only see him square off against Dean Ambrose and John Cena so many time before it starts to get a bit tiresome.

A new champion will be good for the blue brand, which is currently in the midst of upward growth that they’d like to sustain.
