9 Reasons Roman Reigns Defeating The Undertaker Was The Right Call At WrestleMania 33

1. The Undertaker Can Now Rest In Peace

It was time for The Undertaker to 'rest in peace'.

Losing to Roman Reigns in such a definitive manner allowed that finality. Retirements in sports-entertainment have long been a laughable trope of the profession, but the way WrestleMania 33 ended should lay to rest any talks about seeing another Undertaker match. He's done. He's got nothing left. It's over.

In many ways, it's better that the match wasn't a technical masterpiece because more fans now accept that it was time for 'The Phenom' to step down. Thanks to Roman winning, no longer will fans speculate about The Undertaker's health or debate his decision to continue wrestling. No longer will fans wonder what future opponents await 'The Deadman' and if they're worthy of the feat. No longer will fans ask, "When will The Undertaker retire?" Without a loss to Roman Reigns, all those questions remain and the cycle perpetuates.

Throughout his career, The Undertaker, the ultimate beacon of light despite a permanent cloak of darkness, positioned himself as the digger of graves and the taker of souls. Ironically, it is now he who must face the reaper. All things must come to an end, including The Undertaker himself. Let the man, and the character, now rest. In peace.
