John Cena's undeniable star power did so much to raise the stock of WWE's United States Title throughout much of 2015; defending against all comers during well-received 'Open Challenge' segments on Raw, the often-derided Cena proved why he was so valuable to his employer all over again during matches against the likes of Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens.

Come WrestleMania 32 though, much of that magic had been blown away by the winds of change. In Cena's stead, the unlikely champion Kalisto battled the bully boy Ryback during 'Mania 32's Kickoff portion, and it was hardly an improvement over the bruising Cena vs. Rusev match from the previous year that served to jump start Cena's reign.

This year, things have improved in terms of stardom, chiefly because Chris Jericho and Kevin Owens have weaved such an intriguing tale.

A story of former friends turned bitter enemies, the JeriKO implosion was always going to result in a main show berth in Orlando, and the US Title must be pleased to come along for the ride. Much higher profile than Kalisto vs. Ryback could ever hope to be, this year's match between splintered Canadian pals represents progress for the United States gold, as ironic as that is.
