9 Reasons WWE Royal Rumble 2017 Match Was The Worst Of The Decade
6. Randy Orton Winning Was A Letdown
One of the most enticing things about this year’s Royal Rumble was that, for the first time in at least three years we as fans genuinely had no clue who the favorite to win was.
When Batista tossed out Reigns to win prior to WrestleMania 30, everyone saw that coming. The following year Roman was the chosen one long before the match itself was even booked, and last year we knew it would either be the Empire standing tall once again or a last minute swerve from The Game to build to Roman’s “crowning moment” at Mania.
This year there was legitimately no way to predict who would win, and that should make for an outstanding match. Of course there were the favorites – and those changed based on the results of the matches earlier in the night – but no one was locked in.
And despite all that mystery, we got Randy F****ing Orton. I have no problem with Orton as a performer and his stint with The Wyatt Family has actually revitalized his character quite a bit. But let’s be real: with all the young talent on the roster is there any justifiable reason why The Viper should have been the one to win?
Especially considering that as of right now, that means he faces John Cena for the 1933692 time. There's no possible way WWE doesn't move the pieces around and give us a different main event. Right? RIGHT?!
