9 Reasons WWE Royal Rumble 2017 Match Was The Worst Of The Decade
7. The Action Was Dull
2016’s version of The Royal Rumble was a solid return to form for a match that, while still fun in concept had grown incredibly stale in its execution. There were multiple angles being played out, some great spots and solid storytelling.
This year’s version may have been the dullest one in the last decade.
Can anyone think of one single spot that stands out at all? Even Kofi Kingston’s signature razor-thin near elimination was more of a “holy s**t he almost died” moment rather than a thrilling mark-out spot.
Last year there were rumors that Chris Jericho remained in the match as long as he did to help direct traffic and produce the match from the ring, and Y2J was once again the longest lasting competitor. But it didn’t feel like it helped very much this time around as the action this year just dragged. The absence of Pat Patterson is notably obvious.
The bout consisted of a lot of punching, kicking and lying around. Even the climactic moments were over in seconds, making this Rumble one of the most disappointing in recent memory. And there’s some lofty competition for that title.
