9 Reasons WWE Royal Rumble 2017 Match Was The Worst Of The Decade
2. The "Big Three" Received Very Little Screen Time
A lot of the Rumble was promoted around the participation of three men: The Undertaker, Goldberg and Brock Lesnar. Those three are arguably the biggest stars on WWE’s roster, and the prospect of seeing them clash was a big selling point.
Particularly the thought of WCW’s phenom squaring off with WWE’s, something that had never happened before during their time together in WWE. While we were given that moment, it was incredibly brief and deflating.
Something else deflating was how easily Goldberg was able to disperse with Lesnar. After their squash match at Survivor Series, logic would dictate that they would begin to work a strong build toward their eventual Mania showdown with Lesnar regaining some of his aura, but instead he came in, destroyed the entire ring of contestants, and then was once again made Goldberg’s b**** when he was easily tossed out like yesterday’s trash.
The match appears to be leading toward Reigns/Taker for Mania with the way Roman eliminated The Dead Man, and I suppose that’s fine. But after promoting so much of the bout around those three behemoths, having them not appear until the final few entrants and then not be involved in the climax felt like a cheap letdown.
