9 Things GFW Must Do Better Than Impact
6. Dump The Authority Figures
WWE has four authority figures spread out across their two shows. Impact has had three on one show over the past few months. None of them are good in their roles, so they might as well scrap the entire concept.
Dutch Mantell, Bruce Prichard, and Karen Jarrett have all been calling the shots on Impact. It’s never really been established who has the most power. They each just pop in, throw their weight around a bit, devalue wrestlers in the process, and then leave. It’s a tired trope that simply refuses to go away.
Over on SmackDown, barely a single week goes by without Daniel Bryan or Shane McMahon in the opening segment. Judging by the ratings, it’s not a winning formula. It’s a lazy crutch used to fill up TV time. That time could go to wrestlers instead. And really, if Bryan and Kurt Angle no longer bringing excitement to the GM role then Karen Jarrett sure is hell isn’t going to be able to.
Bruce should be re-cast as an interviewer or manager, take Dutch and Karen off-air, and only bring in Jeff Jarrett for a major announcement every couple months, like he did at Slammiversary. Not bogging down the show down with authority figures is such a simple idea to make the product feel fresher, but it seems the people running the major promotions can’t even begin to wrap their heads around the concept anymore.
