9 Things GFW Must Do Better Than Impact
5. Be Edgier
This entry isn’t a call to bring back buckets of blood in matches, or men piledriving women, or Attitude Era Crash TV nonsense. This is about making Global Force Wrestling stand out from WWE by not being so...so...lame.
WWE may try to be cool, but so much of what they produce is cartoonish silliness that largely appeals to children and Vince McMahon.
The examples are endless: Dean Ambrose in no conceivable way feels like an unhinged lunatic. A.J. Styles is forced to spout off incredibly forced and dated pop culture references. John Cena may have reached legendary status in the business, but he’s a 40-year-old man who still wears jorts to the ring. Impact could easily counter this approach and target a more mature audience with great success.
They have some of the tools. L.A.X. feels more real and dangerous than anyone in WWE not named Brock Lesnar. Build around them for a bit and see what happens. Konnan cuts great promos, and Santana, Ortiz, and Diamante are cooler than any team WWE has had since The Shield.
Then throw in more hardcore matches than WWE does, have wrestlers swear, and don't have anyone ever refer to wrestling as "sports entertainment." All of that is easy enough to do. Considering GFW won't have to abide by Vince's quirks or outside corporate pressure, they should be free to cater more to adults.
The only question is if Double J is capable of doing it.
