9 Things GFW Must Do Better Than Impact

3. Get A New Commentary Team

The three people whose voices fans have heard the most on Impact this year have all been incredibly bad at their jobs. Jeremy Borash, Josh Mathews, and The Pope are not conducive to creating entertaining television. It’s time for them to go.

J.B. and Mathews have been embroiled in wrestling’s worst feud of 2017. At multiple times they could have ended the angle but it feels like it may never happen. But even if you look past the storyline, neither man is a great announcer. Both are fine on a good day, but are nowhere near the level of Jim Ross or Mauro Ranallo. They're not even as good as Mike Tenay was. Basically, at Slammiversary Robert Flores stepped in and was as good or better than they were on his first time.

If GFW really wants to separate itself from its past reputation, then having Mathews, J.B. or Pope on commentary is hurting that effort. Anyone willing to give the company another shot will immediately feel like they’re watching the exact same thing they were before. The only thing different is the lime green color scheme of the logo.

Move Borash back to an interviewer role, dump Mathews, and maybe see if Pope has anything left in the ring. Because even if they were all good at their current job, continuing to have them around prevents the promotion from moving forward.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
