9 Things To Expect With TNA's New Ownership
2. A Talent Exodus
Mike Bennett had no problem taking a shot at TNA on Twitter when he found out that Billy Corgan would not be taking control. Davey Richards announced that 2017 would be his last, and you can only imagine how many more wrestlers are ready to bolt at the first sign of trouble under new management.
Now, the Fight Network era should go more smoothly than every era to this point, but they have a lot working against them, as the talent are understandably leery of what kind of changes they’ll be seeing.
What will their contracts look like? Will they have to take pay cuts? Long time veterans have been through so many changes in management, while moving from one network to the next, that their patience is understandably wearing thin. Perhaps trying to make a living on the independent scene, Japan or attempting to land a gig in NXT is sounding more appealing than ever.
Another problem facing Fight/TNA is that their wrestlers aren’t signed to lengthy, exclusive contracts. They aren't really "inheriting" anyone, as many of them have deals coming up soon (like Bennett), and then, there's Cody Rhodes who doesn't even have a contract at all! There may be more like him that can simply leave the moment a better offer comes around. That's a frightening prospect for any promoter, as it makes it hard to build around anyone.
What TNA should be most fearful from right now, though, is one man in particular raiding their talent...
