9 Things We Learned From WWE's Holy Grail: Bret Hart Vs. Tom Magee

7. Magee Could Have Made It... With Time

As incredibly as wrestling camel Bret Hart carries Magee across the desert of his naivety, one of the most alarming conclusions drawn from the infamous match is that the rookie, whilst evidently green, isn't completely inept, and it's eminently understandable what the office saw in the Canadian.

Like future 'new Hulk Hogans' who succeeded him, Magee was the total package (perhaps even more so than the actual 'Total Package'), possessing a rare mix of eye-catching athleticism and aesthetics that would have easily passed Vince McMahon's 'airport test'.

Had Magee been allowed to hone his craft against capable opponents such as Bret Hart and, as alluded to in the doc, the similarly competent Ted DiBiase, he might have been able to iron out his deficiencies. Instead, he was quickly dropped into typical babyface squashes against C-level jobbers, from whom he learned nothing. Perhaps The Hitman made him look too good.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
