It really couldn't have been anyone else, could it?

The fates of Sasha Banks, Charlotte and Bayley (and Becky Lynch) are so closely tied that if this had been anyone other than the former NXT Women's Champion the crowd would have responded with unbridled indignation.

Albeit on a less intense scale, WWE was close to a Daniel Bryan/Rey Mysterio Royal Rumble 2014 situation, one they wisely avoided.

I may be in the minority in thinking this, but if this does turn out to be a one-off main roster performance for now (as JBL rammed home on commentary), it is absolutely the right move. Bayley received a hero's welcome in Washington DC, which surely puts to bed any worries WWE may have had about her on the main roster.

Even so, it can't be used to derail the logical (and correct) route that the Women's Championship is taking, a route that leads to Charlotte vs. Sasha Banks at SummerSlam. Banks got a little help from an old rival last night, but the story is still The Boss and The Champ, and that is what it must be.

Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man.
