9 Things WWE Got Right At Battleground 2016
7. The End Of The Wyatt Family/New Day Story
The short rivalry between The Wyatt Family and The New Day was one of those that could have been a really fascinating affair, due to the inherent differences of both teams, but in reality felt more like a placeholder than anything else.
The fight at the Wyatt Family compound felt poorly done, not helped at all by following TNA's Final Deletion, and the entire story came across as rushed.
Despite this, the match between the two factions ticked all the right boxes last night. Braun Strowman was booked like a monster once again, and he may well be the only individual to come out of this rivalry with gains. He is to go it alone on RAW, and there is reason enough to believe it can be a success.
The main story was Xavier Woods dealing with his fear of Bray Wyatt, which despite being a little corny at times was arguably the first time in a long while that Bray was portrayed as a truly supernatural force. It took Woods a while, but when he did confront his fear the crowd responded in kind, and as a result Xavier gave one of his best in-ring performances to date.
The Wyatts picked up the victory in the end, something that was also the right move. Many have argued that as they are splitting giving them the win makes little sense, but I'd argue the opposite.
As the Family moves into a misty new world, one final victorious hurrah was needed to provide something approaching momentum. Bray can head to SmackDown on the back of a successful battle, and Strowman looks strong once more.
Big E seriously needs to stop doing that spear through the ropes, though. He almost died at Battleground.
