9 Things WWE Got Right At Battleground 2016

6. Rusev Winning Clean

Rusev and Zack Ryder had a fun little sprint in the middle of the show over the United States Championship, and whilst it won't show up on any Match of the Year ballots (or even my Matches of the Week feature here) it was perfectly acceptable, told the right story and ended with the right result.

In truth, the match should most likely have been two minutes of Rusev crushing Ryder, but Long Island Iced Z has a knack for pulling rabbits out of hats, and there was just enough hope in this match to think another bunny was coming.

What he got instead was myxomatosis, as Rusev pulled off the clean win via Super Accolade.

Bonus points for Rusev's reaction to Mojo Rawley making his debut on the main roster after the match. Rawley was obviously rather hyped, but Rusev's confused disapproval was a joy to behold.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
