9 Things WWE Got Right At Battleground 2016
2. Roman Reigns Taking The Fall In The Main Event
Despite the overall reaction to the show being good, WWE still somehow managed to take much-anticipated triple threat between the three former members of The Shield and make it somewhat underwhelming.
The match itself was good, great even, but the build left a lot to be desired after waiting two years for the match to happen.
The real takeaway from the match was the finish, or at least the individuals included in it. Roman Reigns returned to action following his 30-day suspension for a Wellness Policy violation, and it was Reigns who took the fall after being hit by Dean Ambrose's Dirty Deeds. There were no shenanigans, no questions; Ambrose hit Reigns with a double underhook DDT, and Reigns didn't kick out.
Many had speculated before the show that with Reigns suspension over he would return to his overly forced position as the top guy on the show. It is clear that this is not the case however, and Reigns being the one to take the fall was the right decision.
It also represents something approaching redemption for Ambrose, who up until now had been unable to beat his closest brother.
Ambrose and Seth Rollins stay as clear one and two on the roster, and Reigns can begin his route towards the top again, hopefully via a clear heel turn in the near future.
