Ever since Rollins blasted Reigns with a chair on Monday Night RAW in the summer of 2014, Dean Ambrose has been treated somewhat as the third of three ex-Shield members. He has been pinned the most, and has been involved in a number of rivalries in the middle of the card whilst Rollins and Reigns have consistently ate at the top table.

Times, they are a changin' however. In the space of a week Ambrose has pinned both Rollins and Reigns, clean as a sheet, and ended Battleground celebrating another win in his fledgling WWE Championship reign.

The combination of Rollins' injury and Reigns' suspension, along with Ambrose's consistently and unstoppable popularity has meant that the Lunatic Fringe is now the number one guy in the company.

Having Ambrose win here was the right result, and goes further to establishing him as a strong champion. It is something that WWE has never really managed to do for a champion who won the title via Money in the Bank cash-in, and Dean Ambrose represents a chance to not only do that, but resurrect the briefcase concept and create a huge star in the process.

WWE got a lot of things right at Battleground, but Ambrose standing tall to end the show was arguably the most important correct decision of them all.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
