Throughout the night Mauro Ranallo and friends threw proceedings up to the sky box in the Talking Stick Resort Arena in Phoenix, Arizona, in order to hear the thoughts and musings of SmackDown Live's fourth most important couple, Carmella and James Ellsworth. Carmellsworth's relationship is one of the most befuddling and bemusing on WWE TV today, the former trying to establish herself in WWE whilst the latter wrings out every last drop of his unexpected success.

The duo didn't put forward any nuggets of gold or observations to write home about, but the segments were an entertaining little distraction from what was happening inside the ring. Carmella continues to shine in her role as a mid-level heel on SmackDown Live!, her disrespectful manner to all and sundry fitting her image like a glove.

Ellsworth was Ellsworth here, a strange looking man with good comedic timing and a success that is as ridiculous as it is flabbergasting. The segments also helped to present SmackDown Live! as a coherent universe in which the characters inhabit a shared space, another aspect that helps the blue brand stand above its red opposition.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
