9 Things WWE Got Right At Elimination Chamber 2017
4. The Glow Is Bliss
Straw-clutching puns aside, Naomi surprised many by defeating Alexa Bliss and picking up the SmackDown Women's Championship. The former Funkadactyl has proven herself to be a more than able performer in a variety of different roles and a valuable hand in the division, but a champion? It is still early days in the Naomi Era (early hours even), but by putting the title on her ahead of WrestleMania 33 WWE are making one large statement.
When Alexa Bliss defeated Becky Lynch for the championship back at TLC in December it was seen by many as a way of transitioning the title from one babyface to another. This proved to be true, but instead of Nikki Bella it is Naomi who finds herself in possession of the championship going into the final straight to WrestleMania 33. Will Naomi defend the title at the Showcase of the Immortals?
It is unlikely, but for now this was a match that overachieved with a finish that provided the show with a much-needed feel-good moment. Naomi teared up during her post-match search and so she should, her split-legged moonsault catapulting her to the top of the mountain after a six-year journey. Kelly Kelly must be so proud of her rookie.
