9 Things You Need To Know About Mark Hunt's Lawsuit Against Brock Lesnar & UFC
3. USADA Is Not Named In The Lawsuit
Interesting to note is who Mark Hunt is, and isn't, suing in this lawsuit. Named are Brock Lesnar, Dana White, and the UFC. Lesnar, as his opponent, makes sense. If Lesnar was using any banned substances (and clearly, his tests showed he was, even if the substances in question weren't themselves steroids or performance enhancing), then he's responsible. The general rule of thumb is that at the end of the day, an athlete controls what goes into his body.
The UFC and Dana White come in more by way of the conspiracy angle. Hunt is alleging they were aware of Lesnar's actions. That's going to be hard to prove, and Hunt's legal team is likely going to need more of a smoking gun than the Vitor Belfort connection.
The interesting fact here is that USADA themselves aren't named. Historically, when a UFC fighter fails a USADA test, USADA delivers notice to the UFC, and there is a process for fighters to follow in regards to appealing the result, and punishment being handed down. Yet if the argument is about a conspiracy, it stands to reason that USADA would be involved. If there was any direct knowledge of Lesnar doping, or if Hunt believes there was something untowards in Lesnar's test results not being expedited, it would stand to reason that they'd be the first ones to see the evidence.
The fact the Hunt hasn't named them and seems to understand that the testing at least worked may actually harm his case.
