The Juniors Division has to rank up their with the most pointless WWE ideas ever. As Smackdown moved network on September 9th 2005, WWE introduced a network executive character called Palmer Cannon, who would show up and overrule Teddy Long while also presenting his own half-baked ideas. One of the character's grand ideas was the juniors, a group of midget wrestlers who were introduced on the October 21st episode. WWE had tried a midget wrestling division in the late 90s, but that seemed to solely exist so that Jerry Lawler could use up his spare one-liners. The 2005 version was far, far worse. Despite the fact that some of the juniors, in particular Mascarita Sagrada and Tsuki, could actually work, WWE had them go out and do the same tired comedy matches. Meanwhile, the cruiserweights were relegated to Velocity/dark match duty, and had to watch this farce unfold from backstage. The juniors only had a handful of matches on Smackdown and on March 9th, 2006, WWE released the entire division, positing on their website that:
World Wrestling Entertainment has come to terms on the releases of the following talents (Mascarita Sagrada, Tsuki, Pequeno Violencia, Octagoncito, Piratita Morgan and Super Porky) that make up the Smackdown Juniors division. WWE wishes them all the best in all their future endeavors.
