The WWF International Heavyweight Championship was an historic title dating all the way back to 1948, defended in both its parent company and New Japan Pro Wrestling, and passing between the hands of such luminaries as Tatsumi Fujinami and Riki Choshu.

The belt wasn't actually as prestigious as it sounds. It was deactivated in 1963 when the newly found World Wide Wrestling Federation's top title gained precedence, only returning as catnip for the joint venture between the New York promotion and Antonio Inoki's outfit across the pond almost twenty years later.

Unfortunately, what the collective masses of WWF and NJPW were fighting for looked like something your nan would order from the back pages of a Sunday newspaper, available in limited quantities from the Royal Mint for a readers' exclusive price of just £19.99 inc. P&P.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
