9 Ups & 1 Down For AEW Collision (Dec 16 - Results & Review)

5. A Fun Plunder War

Firstly, having long grown tired of having to give a Down most weeks for how AEW Collision usually only features one women's match, which tends to run about eight minutes, three of which are spent in picture-in-picture break... it was hugely refreshing to see a Collision where there was actually more than one ladies bout.

Sure, the Abadon vs. Jazmin Allure match was simply a one-minute squash that was more about setting up the return of Thunder Rosa, but that does count as meaning this Collision is, if memory serves, the first episode of the Saturday show to feature two women's contests.

As for the second of those matches, that was Kris Statlander & Willow Nightingale vs. Mercedes Martinez & Diamante; a fun plunder war that got extremely messy extremely quickly. Some of that 'messy' was in how Willow was busted open nearly immediately, and other elements of 'messy' were in how this wasn't exactly the smoothest of matches. Of course, you don't necessarily want everything to look flawless and overly smooth when you're talking about a rivalry that's resulted in a street fight. Still, Statlander in particular had a couple of gnarly-looking landings.

For the most part, it was the vicious heels who were on top in this one, with Stat dropped on some chairs, later put through a board, and even having her face rubbed in thumbtacks and broken glass, while Willow had a bottle broken over her head and would end the match having been put through a table.

The babyfaces would eventually get the win, with Statlander able to take Mercedes down after hitting a steel chain-laced lariat. It wasn't pretty, but this serves as what should be a fitting end to a rivalry that's continued to escalate across the past couple of months.

And man, isn't Willow Nightingale just one of the best sellers in the game right now? Brilliant stuff from Nightingale.
