9 Ups & 1 Down For AEW Collision (Dec 16 - Results & Review)
3. Him...
For many an AEW fan, they were left exceedingly frustrated that the rivalry between Keith Lee and Swerve Strickland resulted in... nothing.
The formal split of these former AEW Tag Team Champions came in December 2022, where Swerve orchestrated an attack on Limitless and even smashed a cinder block on Big Keith. Here we are, though, one whole year later, and the two have never had an AEW singles match against one another, and the whole rivalry fizzled out several months ago.
However, better late than never, it looks like we may soon finally get to see Keith Lee vs. Swerve Strickland.
Having defeated Shane Taylor at ROH Final Battle, Lee confirmed that the 'him' he's been referencing recently was not Taylor. And after Brian Cage defeated Kari Wright in handy fashion on Collision, a Mogul Embassy backstage promo was interrupted by Keith letting the heel faction know to put him on notice - alluding to that him being the group's not-present Swerve Strickland.
Is a bit daft that we're only now getting back to this rivalry? Sure. But that doesn't mean the match won't be great, and that this won't be a major shot in the arm for a Keith Lee who AEW is clearly trying to rehabilitate after a very so-so run with the promotion.
There is an argument Swerve Strickland should be focussing on the AEW World Title picture once the Continental Classic is done, but revisiting his unfinished business with Keith Lee could be used to elevate Lee and to continue to cement Swerve as a main event player.
