Given the two talents involved, Andrade El Idolo vs. Daniel Garcia was always going to be great - and that indeed proved to be the case.
The in-ring action was as crisp and fluid as one would expect, with Andrade one of the very best in the world, and Garcia continuing to show why he's viewed as a can't-miss top tier prospect. There was intense strikes, there was some nice working of Garcia's right leg with a series of dragon screws, both men's taunts - or, in Garcia's case, dance - were teased and played in to, El Idolo's fake-out moonsault looked as magnificent as ever, and the former La Sombra finally got the win via submission with the Figure 8.
Of course, the in-ring action was only part of the story here, with Andrade accompanied to the ring by CJ Perry. That pairing is certainly a smart one that makes sense on so many levels. Clearly, El Idolo isn't exactly a great promo, and Perry's time in AEW has seen her deliver some nicely executed promos during this burgeoning run.
For Andrade, he was at his very best in WWE when he had Zelina Vega alongside him. Slotting in CJ as his mouthpiece could hopefully recapture some elements of the El Idolo/Vega magic, and Andrade can simply be left to focus on being the charismatic, magnetic, intense worker that he's for so long been.
What this new pairing also does, is put Andrade El Idolo in the crosshairs of Miro - who was seen watching on here - and offer up the prospect of what could be a fantastic battle between the two in the coming weeks or months.
