9 Ups & 3 Downs From Impact Wrestling (Aug 11)

3. Mack's Mayhem

Since his arrival in Impact Wrestling in 2018, all we’ve known Willie Mack as is a fun-loving big guy. A classic wrestling trope that can either succeed or fail, depending on how they’re utilised. As for ‘Chocolate Thunder’, his portrayal of this role has been alright, but things for these types of characters tend to get quite stale after a while.

That he took the fight to Eric Young as opposed to the roles being reversed added much needed depth to his Impact persona. The former X Division Champion ambushed Young backstage at the top of the show, something that we could have perhaps predicted from the former SAnitY member, with the fight eventually spilling into the Impact Zone.

A piledriver courtesy of ‘The World Class Maniac’ was the final nail in the coffin to secure a win for Young, which only came after he crotched Mack on the turnbuckles. Willie had been positioning himself for a steel chair-assisted Six Star Frog Splash to Young’s ankle, which not only would have resulted in a disqualification, but it would have no doubt caused equal damage to both competitors.

It may be a welcomed vicious side to ‘Chocolate Thunder’, but he needs to spend more time thinking about these sorts of things more than anything unless he wants to rack up the losses. That minor note aside, sadistic Willie Mack works surprisingly well.
